Article XI. Monasteries &
religious institutions
The Inclusive Orthodox Church was founded by the religious members of the
Eremitic Order of Mount Carmel and holds dearly those brothers and sisters
who follow the monastic path.
This calling affords each religious days of prayer, work, contemplation and
the inner silence in which one hears the voice of God. There exists no
legal or financial relationship between the Church and any monasteries and
religious institutions even though they share spiritual communion with one
another.
Section 11.01 Religious orders under the omophor of the apostolic president
The apostolic president has placed the Eremitic Order of Mount Carmel under
his omophor and serves as its chaplain. He is also patron and chaplain
of the Companions of the Holy Name.
(i) Eremitic Order of Mount Carmel
The Eremitic Order was fashioned by its founders in the spirit of the early
hermits who were inspired by the Prophet Elijah and lived with him on Mount
Carmel near Galilee pre-dating the birth of Christ. It was the
founding members of the Eremitic Order of Mount Carmel (EOMC) who
established the Inclusive Orthodox Church in December 1994, by electing an
Orthodox Bishop from among its members.
The Order is under the leadership of an abbot-hegumen who is autonomous
and elected for life. While spiritually associated with the Inclusive
Orthodox Church, the Eremitic Order of Mount Carmel functions
independently of that organization.
The monks of the Eremitic Order of Mount Carmel live in common at
Annunciation Monastery in Honolulu, Hawaii and/or at other such
locations as the abbot may so designate. They sponsored spiritual
activities at Waikiki Community Chapel for seven years starting in the
winter of 1995. The Order has non-resident brothers and
sisters who affiliate themselves with the monastic community by becoming
members of the Eremitic Order of Mount Carmel’s Third Order. The
Order accepts affiliates of other faiths within a spirit of ecumenism
who also seek its way of life and dedication to a spiritual life.
(ii) Companions of the Holy Name
Companions of the Holy Name are an ecumenical association of persons who
practice the Holy Name of Perpetual Light Prayer. The words of the
prayer are, “Jesus Christ, Son of God, heal me [us] in Perpetual Light.”
Recognition of the real-time and continual presence of Perpetual Light,
normally spoken of only in terms of the hereafter, is a practical step
in the process of becoming more like Christ (theosis). Section 11.02 Secular institutes and religious organizations under the omophor of the apostolic president
